## Cervical cancer risk assessment: common questions

**Q: What does it ask about?**

A: Whether you have had a hysterectomy, HIV status and immune health, HPV vaccination and HPV test results, past treatment of abnormal cells, sexual history, past STIs, pregnancies, contraceptive pill use, smoking and your screening history.

**Q: Which warning signs does it check?**

A: Twelve, including bleeding after sex, between periods or after menopause, unusual discharge, pelvic or back pain and pain during sex. Any of them brings up a red alert for prompt review.

**Q: Which test will it recommend?**

A: An HPV test every 5 years is preferred from age 25; VIA or a Pap smear every 3 years where HPV testing is not available; and yearly checks for women living with HIV.

**Q: Can I test at home?**

A: The assessment can point you to a self-collect HPV kit where one is offered, alongside clinic-based screening.

**Q: What does it cost?**

A: KES 300 covers all five cancer risk assessments. Assessment and package fees do not include tests, scans or consultations at the facility, which you pay there by cash, card, mobile money or insurance.
