## Colorectal cancer risk assessment: common questions

**Q: What does it ask about?**

A: Bowel cancer or polyps in close relatives and their age at diagnosis, Lynch syndrome or FAP, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's, polyps, type 2 diabetes, red and processed meat, fibre, alcohol, tobacco, activity, and past stool tests and colonoscopies.

**Q: Which warning signs does it check?**

A: Seven, including a lasting change in bowel habit, rectal bleeding, low iron, weight loss and abdominal pain. Any of them is flagged for prompt review.

**Q: What will it recommend?**

A: From 45 to 75, a stool blood test every year or a colonoscopy every 10 years, and earlier, closer checks with inherited conditions or bowel disease.

**Q: What does it cost?**

A: KES 300 covers all five cancer risk assessments. Assessment and package fees do not include tests, scans or consultations at the facility, which you pay there by cash, card, mobile money or insurance.
