## Diabetes risk assessment: common questions

**Q: What does it ask about?**

A: Past blood sugar tests, family history, high blood pressure, PCOS, cholesterol, prediabetes, dark thickened skin, steroid use, diabetes in pregnancy or a baby over 4.5 kg, weight, waist, activity, sugary and refined foods, alcohol, tobacco, HIV, TB and antipsychotic medicines.

**Q: Which symptoms does it check?**

A: Eight, including frequent urination, thirst, tiredness, blurred vision, slow-healing wounds and tingling. Any of them suggests a clinical assessment.

**Q: When does it recommend testing?**

A: From age 35, or earlier if you are overweight with a risk factor, have prediabetes, HIV, TB, take steroids or antipsychotics, or had diabetes in pregnancy.

**Q: What does it cost?**

A: KES 200 for the hypertension and diabetes assessments together, or KES 500 in the Plus package. Assessment and package fees do not include tests, scans or consultations at the facility, which you pay there by cash, card, mobile money or insurance.
